A novel new treatment for Bipolar Depression:
Seroquel-XR (Quetiapine fumarate)
My experience with this drug has been favorable. I am not an agent for AstraZeneca . I have not been paid, and I am not getting any kickbacks. This is for informational purpose only.
- This is a novel, new agent which has a decreased number of side-effects.
- It can be used as monotherapy (one drug) for Bipolar Depression.
- This drug can be given at night and should last all day (24 hours).
- Although none of my patients have gained weight, it is a possibility (1-3 kg).
- This drug also has a new indication for adjunctive therapy for Major Depression.
- Although Seroquel XR is not cheap, it is a very good treatment.
- Please talk to your physician before taking any new leap of faith with a medication change.
